As daughters of God, there are numerous things that will try to stop us as we walk in our purpose and anxiety is definitely one of them.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7 New King James Version
Anxiety, or being anxious, is defined as uneasiness or being fearful or worried about a possible event. I am an analytical thinker and if you’re anything like me, it can be difficult to shut your brain off for a moment because you're constantly thinking. While thinking through decisions you to make or upcoming plans is not a bad thing, what will hinder you is if you don’t have the proper foundation for managing your thoughts and the Word of God is the best foundation.
Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
Psalm 37:3,5,7
Psalm 37 gives you the perfect plan for how to overcome anxiety…
Trust, Commit, Rest
I believe that one of the root causes of anxiety is the lack of trust in God. Psalm 37:3 says to “feed on His faithfulness”. Listen, sis, what God did before, He can do it again! It is a trick of the enemy to make you think that God has forgotten about you and sometimes, it’s our own mind that has produced that false idea. When you are feeding on the faithfulness of the Lord, you are strengthening your faith and hope through seeing what God has done in His Word and the times that He has come through for you.
The Word of God says that a person makes plans in their heart but it is God who orders their steps. You have to lay down your will. There’s no way that you can go your way and God’s way at the same time. You have to choose which way you’re going to follow and let go of the other path. See you and I make life plans based on what we see right now at this moment which means we are making educated guesses throughout life. But the Lord knows our beginning from our end. He knows what is to come so His path will always lead in the right direction and there is no guesswork involved.
There have been times in my life when I prayed to God about a situation and instead of leaving it at His feet, I was still carrying it and allowing it to steal my peace. Don’t make the mistake of looking around and envying what others are doing or acquiring because you don’t know what they did or are doing to be at that place. Remember, God knows our beginning from our end so what He tells us to do will be the right thing and in our best interest. So just rest sis and trust that your Father is working on your behalf.
Our trust and hope in God are what keep us anchored and give us strength.
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 New King James Version
